a few interesting places

Hello Delaine,
I've taken a few more photos of places in and along Bute Street, I shall upload them on to the blog later today.
If you follow this link it'll take you to the developers site and give you a little more detail about the various sites.

Like I say, I will pop the photos up on the blog this afternoon.

Little map taken from the Merchant Place website.

Taken from the website, just to show you the location

QR codes and Apps

Hello again,

I've been doing a bit more research on apps and QR barcodes. I'm not sure how familiar you are with them so I've written a short bit of information on both of them, I've also included links where possible to websites that'll explain a bit more.

QR Codes are the simplest of the two. Quick Response Codes are a means of linking a user to a web page,  text or address and can be generated online quite simply by using websites like http://goqr.me/.
Most mobile phones now come with a QR scanner as part of the camera, with others you have to download a scanning app, of which there are many.
It's a great idea if you're doing something like a guided tour or even an audio guide, put a QR code next to a place of interest and members of the public can scan the code on their mobile phones and be directed to a web page that has more information on it.

Here is a site that'll explain an little more about it's capabilities. QR Codes

This is a QR Code for this blog...scan it and see!

We've talked about the possibility of producing an app to go along with the exhibition, this is slightly more complicated and would require getting a developer on board, but as you and Hannah had discussed, this would be a great workshop for children to get involved with and it's something that they could really make their own. After looking at the top free apps of 2011 it was clear that social networking apps were on top. Maybe this is something to think about?

I've found a few companies in South Wales that will build the app you're after, kapowcreative are based in Cwmbran, Rant Media are based in Cardiff and Caboodle Media are from Llanelli. Just click the links to have a peek at their websites.
This app could be really fun and it would be great to draw on other peoples information and links with other groups.

Bute Street: Cosmopolitan Highway

I'm planning on making another trip to Bute Street on Thursday 12th January, I'll be taking a few more photos for you and also trying to find out a little more about some of the buildings and sites around the area. I'm hoping to pop in to the Butetown History and Arts Centre again and see if I can get a meeting with Glenn Jordan.
He has done so much research and has been involved in some very interesting publication about Bute Town and is one of the speakers involved in this: MULTICULTURALISMS: THEORIES AND PRACTICE AN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, which is taking place in May this year.

I will let you know what I find out.

In the mean time here is a link to the exhibitions page, keep an eye out for the exhibition, 'Bute Street: Cosmopolitan Highway', also for the one just below that, 'Tennants in Focus', Would be great to know a little more about these too.

St Fagans - Showmans Wagon

I've been in contact with St Fagans National history Museum regarding any objects or artefacts they might have in their colelction that would be of interest. They don't appear to have all that much, I was sent an image of an old showmans wagon which is in the proccess of being restored, but I'm not sure how relevant this is to our search.

Showmans Wagon - St Fagans.
It has been in the process of being restored, but work on it has been suspended whilst staff work on a major storage project.. The interior and roof need completing. The exterior of the wagon can be viewed but it is difficult to inspect it close-up,and it isn’t possible to look or go inside. It is currnetly being stored in the large object store which is quite full, the picture gives a good impression of this.
